IPL cricket update: Chris Gayle becomes the most valuable player in IPL 4

Chris Gayle becomes the most valuable player of IPL4 with a MVPI of 710 beating MI bowler Lasith Malinga. He has scored 436 runs at a strike rate of 200 in just 7 matches. Also he has taken 6 wickets at an economy rate of 6.6. Lasith Malinga (582) continues to knock down stumps with his toe crushers as easily as Gayle blasts sixes, and easily retains his second place in the MVPI table. Virender Sehwag (564) is on third place but he has already ended his IPL campaign due to injury otherwise he might have offered him a challenge.

IPL cricket update: Gayle’s whirlwind century decimates Punjab

West Indies opener Chris Gayle has the unique distinction of scoring two centuries in the Indian Premier League when he cracked a whirlwind 49-ball 107 in Royal Challengers Bangalore's 85-run win over Kings XI Punjab on Friday. Gayle thumped 9 sixes and 10 fours during his power-packed innings to help Bangalore post a formidable 205-6. Seamer Sreenath Aravind (4/14) and Gayle (3/21) then restricted Punjab to 120-9 for their fifth win in nine matches of the Twenty20 tournament.

IPL Cricket Update: Ishant Sharma wrecks Kochi's batting with a fiery spell of 5 for 12

Ishant Sharma wrecked the Kochi Tuskers Kerala top-order with a fiery spell of 5 for 12 to hand out 55- run victory for Deccan Chargers in their Indian Premier League match in Kochi on Wednesday. Dale Steyn supported Ishant Sharma well as they wreaked havoc on Kochi batsmen from the start of their innings. Steyn polished off the middle-order with a superb 3 for 16 to bowl out Kochi for a paltry 74 in 16.3 overs. Ishant produced a dream spell in the history of the IPL T20 tournment with mind-boggling figures of 3-0-12-5.

IPL cricket update: RCB and Royals split points on a rain-affected match

Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals split points as the IPL match was washed out due to rain  at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday. IPL 4 witnessed its first match called off due to incessant rain without a ball being bowled.But it was a blessing in disguise for Royal as it catapulted them to the second position with five points from as many matches only behind KKR.

England’s world cup campaign is still kept alive by winning with a slender margin of 18 runs against West Indies in Chennai yesterday. It was a see-saw battle which saw England scored a thrilling victory when the odds were heavily against them when West Indies were coasting on 222 for 6. But the windies sensationally lost their last four wickets for three runs in 20 deliveries, thanks to the spin duo of Graham Swann and James Tredwell, who took 4/48 and 3/36 respectively.

South Africa enters quarter-finals with a clinical 131-run win over Ireland

South Africa entered the quarter-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 after a comprehensive 131-run victory over Ireland in the day-night match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata yesterday. At one point of time, it appeared that Ireland would pull of another major upset when the proteas were looking down at the barrel with 117/5, while put into bat first by Ireland, following some tight bowling and excellent fielding by Ireland.

Malinga rips Kenya; Takes hat-trick, the second in ICC CWC 2011

Malinga ripped through the Kenyan batsmen in a devastating spell of fast bowling including a hat-trick in the Group A match at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Fiery Malinga bowled with lot of venom with a series of toe-crushing yorkers in his match haul of six wickets including his hat-trick where he dismissed Tanmay Mishra, Peter Ondongo, Shem Ngoche of consecutive balls. Kenya was bundled out for 142 . The Kenyan challenge came to nought as Sri Lanka piled misery on the kenyans scoring the fastest team century of the tournament reaching 100 in 13.4 overs.

Shoaib Akhtar bowled the fastest ball in the history of cricket

Shoaib Akhtar bowled the fastest recorded ball of 161.3 kph in the history of cricket in the World Cup match at Newlands. Shoaib Akhtar, nicknamed, the Rawalpindi Express, bowled the first ball officially timed at 100mph  but went for seven an over. His bowling figures are 9-1-63-1.
