Will West Indies regain their lost glory at Beausejour Cricket Ground

The mid 70s to mid 80s – a time when West Indies ruled the cricketing World.  Clive Hubert Lloyd had fearsome battery of fast bowlers ranging from Boyce, Holder, Julien, Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, Wayne Daniel, Colin Croft, Joel Garner, Malcolm Marshall, Patterson and more… WI were considered unbeatable and the stray victories the other teams had were celebrated.  After Lloyd’s retirement (sad he lost his final ODI as also the Test); West Indies have had many Captains -: Alvin Kallicharran,  Deryck Murray, Isaav Vivian Alexander Richards, Gord

After all that hype, it was not to be though a 2-2 draw is a fitting result – a result still WI can feel happy about.    Batting first Australians were powered to 281 for 9 with half-tons from Warner, Watson and Forrest – Windies could make only 251 in reply losing by 30 runs.

Asia Cup selection blues: The dropping of Sehwag

The equation is rather simple.  It has happened before – the entire Nation supporting and wanting a Team which they would otherwise hate to win – in a piquant situation, Indians would want Australia to win – for that only would provide India the chance to be in the Finals.  Sri lanka has their tail-up with 3 wins and a tie in their last 5 matches.  They would be rearing to go at Melbourne where they had once beaten Australia for entering the finals in 1996.

Australia start favorites against Sri Lanka at Perth today

Michael Clarke is on a high – team performing well and he can afford to experiment with his batting or bowling order.   Sri Lanka on the other hand are riddled with on the field and off-field occurrences.  Mahela Jayawardene is back as captain in trying circumstances as the mantle has passed on from person and Dilshan having relinquished it.  Knowing Lankans they might even try to take the battle to the opponents at Perth enraging bull and trying to capture it by its horns.  Dilshan is a keeper batsman, there is already the wily Sangakka
