MS Dhoni leads ICC ODI team of the year

Indian skipper MS Dhoni was chosen as the captain of the ICC ODI team of the year in a list of eleven players that also finds three other Indian players namely, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, player of the tournament in the World Cup, and Zaheer Khan. Dhoni became the lone player to figure in the ODI team for the fourth successive year. Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir don’t find a place in the list in spite of being nominated for ODI player of the year award.

England claim a dramatic victory as Sri Lanka batting collapses

England claimed a dramatic victory in the first Test after Sri Lanka was shot out for 82 after the last eight wickets fell for 49 runs in 12 overs. Graeme Swann (4/16) and Chris Tremlett (4/40) took four wickets apiece to set up a win by an innings and 14 runs at Sophia Gardens on Monday. This is Sri Lanka's fourth lowest total and England took 1-0 lead in the three-match nPower Test series. England claimed victory in the final session after the Test was meandering to end in a draw. All the Sri Lanka’s batsmen failed except Thisara Perera, who top-scored with 20.

Chris Gayle hammered a 16-ball 44 and Tillakaratne Dilshan scored an unbeaten 52 that helped Royal Challengers Bangalore score a nine-wicket win over Kochi Tuskers Kerala at the M Chinnaswamy stadium on Sunday. Chasing a modest target of 126, the Royal Challengers won with 6.5 overs to spare. This was Bangalore's fifth consecutive win with 13 points from 10 matches in IPL4. The loss proved Kochi’s nemesis as they have only 10 points from 11 games.

Kochi’s inept batting display saw only Ravindra Jadeja produced an innings of substance as he top-scored with an impressive 29 off 18 balls (1 four and 3 sixes). Kolkata spinners, Shakib Al Hasan (3/28) and Yusuf Pathan (3/20) wrecked Kochi picking up the crucial wickets of McCullum, Jayawardene, Brad Hodge and Parthiv Patel in quick succession.

IPL cricket update: Kochi Tuskers Kerala cruises to a seven-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings

Brendon McCullum scored a quickfire 47 (33 balls, four fours, three sixes) to guide Kochi Tuskers Kerala to a seven-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings at Kochi in IPL cricket on Monday. Chasing a revised target of 135 in match reduced to 17 overs on a rain-affected match, Kochi romped home comfortably with two overs to spare with 7 wickets on hand. This was Kochi's second win and Chennai's second defeat in four matches. McCullum added 51 off just six overs for the second wicket with Parthiv Patel who scored 34 off 26 balls and struck four fours and a six.

Deccan Chargers beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 33 runs

Bharat Chipli and Dale Steyn helped Deccan Chargers to post their maiden victory as they beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 33 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi international stadium on Thursday. DC skipper Kumar Sangakkara recorded five victims behind the stumps-the highest tally ever in the IPL edition. Chasing a stiff target of 176, RCB threatened to take the match away from DC with a 62-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Virat Kohli (71, 51b, 5x4, 3x6) and Cheteshwar Pujara.

India stutters to beat Pakistan to enter into Final

India stuttered to beat Pakistan by 29 runs at Mohali in the 2nd semi-final as at one stage Misbah-ul-Haq had threatened to take the match away from India in vain with a well-compiled 56 as the target of 261 was very much gettable. India had the full support of a vociferous crowd who cheered with drums and fireworks display. The atmosphere was surcharged with emotions running high on either side but in the end India displayed grit, determination and passion to outplay Pakistan in the crucial encounter.

Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 5 wickets and entered the final

Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by five wickets to enter into the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo yesterday. Chasing a modest target of 217 set by the Kiwis, Sri Lanka was cruising along well with 120-run stand between Tillakaratne Dilshan (73) and skipper Kumar Sangakkara (54), but the fall of three quick wickets applied the brakes on the scoring rate of the islanders.
