IPL has created a distinction for the most number of wickets and highest run records. The Purple Cap is awarded for IPL top wicket-taker and Orange cap in IPL is given for IPL leading run scorer.

IPL cricket update: Kochi Tuskers Kerala thrash Rajasthan Royals by 8 wickets

Brad Hodge guided Kochi Tuskers Kerala to a crushing 8-wicket victory against Rajasthan Royals to stay alive for a play-offs berth in the Indian Premier League on Sunday. Australian Brad Hodge made an impressive all-round performance both with bat and ball taking 4 for 13, his best in IPL, to bundle out Rajasthan for a paltry 97 and followed it with an unbeaten 33 off 17 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes chase down the target in just 7.2 overs. Kochi openers, Brendon McCullum and Parthiv Patel played with ease and made useful contributions of 29 and 21 not out respectively.

IPL Cricket Update: Sehwag’s blazing century helpe Delhi Daredevils beat Deccan Chargers by 4 wickets

Delhi Daredevils skipper Virender Sehwag’s blitzkrieg powered Delhi to a crushing 4-wicket victory over Deccan Chargers at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday. Deccan Chargers posted a formidable 175/5 after put into bat. However, the Delhi skipper had other plans who bulldozed Deccan’s bowlers to a 56-ball 119, which was studded with 13 fours and six sixes. With this loss, the Chargers are literally out of contention in IPL 4. Sehwag was lucky to be reprieved with two dropped catches off Amit Mishra.

IPL cricket update: Chennai Super Kings beat Deccan Chargers by 19 runs

Chennai Super Kings scored an emphatic 19-run win over Deccan Chargers at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday. Electing to bat first, CSK built its innings with contributions from Michael Hussey (46) and Suresh Raina (59) to post a challenging total of 165. Sunny Sohal (56 off 36 balls) provided a rollicking start to the Chargers adding 71runs for the first wicket with Shikhar Dhawan. Sohal hit Doug Bollinger for six and four, before launching into Albie Morkel for a sequence of 4, 6, 4, 4 in the third over as Chargers raced to 64 at the end of six overs.

The next two World Cups will be a 10-team competition

The ICC Executive Board  confirmed that the next two World Cups will be 10-team competition to provide good contests. It also stated that teams will be selected based on the performance in the ODI league after the 2019 World Cup in England.

ICC had decided in October 2010 to reduce the number of participating teams in the ICC global event which literally has shown the doors for Associate members to play in World Cup events.

The 2015 tournament will be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

Zaheer’s final hurdle

Zaheer Khan, 32 was instrumental in India’s victory march to the semi-final and in the Final he came as a cropper. He conceded 60 runs in his 10 overs with his last five overs alone costing 54 runs that helped Sri Lanka to post a challenging total of 274. Zaheer’s tryst with the Final started way back in 2003 World Cup when he was hammered by Ricky Ponting and Damien Martyn in the Final to return with figures of 7-0-67-0 as Aussies piled up a massive 359 for 2.

Broad steers Engliand to a thrilling 6 run victory

This World Cup has conjured a lot of see-saw battles and England has played a big role. Their matches against India and Ireland were shining examples. But in the match against South Africa they manage to wrest control of the game and win by six runs in a thrilling encounter at Chennai. England bowled out South Africa for 165 chasing a paltry total of 172, with a lethal combination of reverse swing bowling from Anderson and the guile of Swann's spin.

Australia demolished Namibia and broke several world cup records

Australia thundered to a forbidding 301 against Namibia at Potchefstroom on February 27, 2003 in the 2003 ICC World Cup. Australia's charge was led by Hayden's ruthless 88, but even he was eclipsed by Lehmann, who began the last over on 22 and ended it by launching a soaring leg-side six to bring up his fifty. Van Vuuren had gone for 28 - the most expensive over in World Cup history.
