India and England in Group A of ICC World T20 2012
The ICC World T20 2012 schedule is out as the ICC announced it at a function on Wednesday. ICC also showcased the logo of the premier event. India and defending champions, England are pitted against each other in Group A of World T20 which will be held in Sri Lanka from September 18 to October 12, 2012. Colombo, Pallekele and Hambantota will be venues for the men's tournament, while the women's group games will be played in Galle. The top two teams in each group will make it through the preliminary round, after which there will be a Super Eight stage, featuring two groups. The two qualifying teams will be selected from the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2012 tournament which will be held in UAE from March 13 to 24.
The Super Eight stage will be held between September 27 and October 2. The semifinals will be held on October 4 and 5 and the finals on October 7. The men’s and women's World Cup will also be held concurrently. The women's T20 semifinals (October 4 & 5) and finals (October 7) will be played in Colombo.
The tournament begins with Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe match in Hambantota on September 18, while the host, Sri Lanka takes on South Africa on September 22 at the same venue. India play its first match in World T20 2012 in Colombo on September 19 at R. Premadasa stadium against a second qualifier and then takes on England on September 23.
The tournament will include two teams qualifying from the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2012, which will be staged in the United Arab Emirates from March 13-14 2012.
Hosts Sri Lanka will play the tournament's opening fixture against Zimbabwe in Hambantota. England opens their world cup T20 campaign against a qualifying team on September 21 and will then play India in Colombo on September 23.
