Australia thrash Canada by 7 wkts

All-rounder Shane Watson (94) and Brad Haddins (88) hammered half-centuries and involved in an opening wicket partnership of 183 runs, an Australian record for first wicket, to shape Austrialia’s win over Canada by 7 wickets with 15 overs to spare. Man-of-the-match Watson struck the biggest six of the world cup 2011 (104 meters) as Australia thrashed Canada to top ICC Cricket World Cup Group A. Australia remain unbeaten in five games in this world cup, and so in 34 matches at the World Cup since 1999, and they play their next match against Pakistan in Colombo, virtually a decider for no.1 spot in Group A.

Only Hiral Patel gave Canada a glimpse of hope by scoring a career-best 54 as they took the attack to Australia aiming for a target of over 250. They were comfortable at 150 for two wickets but suddenly lost five wickets for 19 runs to the express pace of Brett Lee, who took four wickets for 46. Canada were eventually bowled out for 211.
